‘RESTITUTION' AS A MORAL OPTION FOR RECTIFYING HISTORICAL INJUSTICES
Abstract
Scanning through recent human history several events have left many surviving victims hurting. In a world that has witnessed several wars, atrocities, genocides, slavery and racial subjugations, revenge against perpetrators cannot be the best option. This essay identifies restitution as the best possible option for conflict resolution and prevention. Expository, Inquiry and historical methods are used in this research. Despite the fact that restitution faces various challenges and other cynicisms, in this article it is argue that governments should be ready to make restitutions and amend past injustices. In this sense, the concept of 'restitution' embraces all attempts to rectify historical injustices; it opens a new chapter for understanding along various fault lines in our already fragmented society. In the midst of the senseless horrors of war and numerous conflicts which are still brewed and fomented in our very face, the theory of restitution can offer us a beacon of hope
