AN EXPOSITION OF STEPHEN HAWKING AND JOHN LENNOX ON THE GOD'S EXISTENCE DEBATE
Abstract
The physics of the origin, nature and regularities in the universe, Lennox is of the position that Hawking's physics did not fully account for the origin of the universe because it did not answer questions of ultimate meaning, hence the need for an ultimate explanation beyond physics which necessitates God. The paper first presents Hawking's physics of the universe where in is found his position in the God's existence question. This is followed by John Lennox's critique of Hawking which centres mainly on the inability of physics to answer the ultimate question of why of existence. The objective of the work is to present afresh and bring to the front burner the major arguments and criticisms of these two major opponents in the God's existence. The methods used are exposition and analysis of the positions of both thinkers as the work concludes that the debate over the existence of God has been merely pushed further, not concluded in the Hawking versus Lennox debate.
