CONSEQUENTIALISM AND THE COMMON GOOD IN BAYELSA STAT
Abstract
Man as a free moral agent is believed to be responsible for the outcome of his own actions and inactions. The aim of this work is to attempt an in-depth analysis of Mconsequentialism {consequences of an action determines the morality} as an umbrella ethical theory and its impacts on the common good of Bayelsa state. By definition, the common good is that which is shared by and beneficial to all or most members of a community. However, the research methodology employed in this work is expository on the concept of consequentialism. The work intends to make bare the concept of consequentialism and its influence on society to promote the common good; Bayelsa as a case study. The importance of this work is not farfetched owing to the fact that several works on the concepts have been examined by others. However, none of the researchers has given an explanation of the concept as it applies to the common good in Bayelsa state. This work therefore, is important not only to Bayelsa state but also to the Niger Delta region as a whole.
