A HERMENEUTICAL REFLECTION ON AGENT RELIABILISM IN CONCEPTUALIZING THE ONTOLOGICAL IN IGBO WORLD OF BEINGS
Abstract
The perception and explanation of the sense of the moral in Igbo world arise moral Tprinciples perceived as necessarily true. The consciousness of this invariant legislating necessity is consequent upon the virtue of the subjects' cognitive capacity and sense of social responsibility. The question, however, is how to validate the perception and the veracity of the sources of our moral knowledge. What makes the percepts good and how do they legislate? If it legislates absolutely, how do we explain cognitive differences? The moral principle rests on the cognitive capacity in people's perception of what is Good in relation to what it means 'to be good' or evil in consequence to one's actions. The researcher adopted the expository, analytic and hermeneutic methods. Various moral conceptions are elucidated, their epistemic imports are subjected to critical analysis while most Igbo moral concepts are carefully interpreted to bring out knowledge of their moral value. It is important to realize that the rational Igbo person exercises his or her noectic acts towards intentional objects. These acts as it were, are defined, approved or prohibited by a symmetry of understanding that guides society's moral life
