TOWARDS ACHIEVING RELEVANT PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA: ENUGU EDUCATION ZONE IN VIEW
Abstract
Philosophising economic growth through education in Nigeria plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation's economic growth by inuencing educational and economic practices, policies, and outcomes. This paper explores the interplay between educational philosophy and economic development within the Enugu Education Zone of Nigeria, aiming to identify pathways for fostering a relevant and impactful educational framework that supports sustainable economic growth. The study was guided by six research questions and the corresponding objectives. The research design was cross-sectional survey. It was found that strategies should include executive literacy content to reect pupils' cognitive learning abilities, execute literacy content to reect the three domains of a child's learning ability, language and literacy activities such to cater for a variety of cultural backgrounds, teach new words in groups of related words, create self-teaching strategies such that children can develop new words on their own and use instructional materials/texts to provide them with prior knowledge and facilitate comprehension. Again, strategies that could be adopted to achieve a sound basis for scientic and reective thinking in primary school children includes; planned science experience in relation to children's method of observation, planned science experiences in relation to children's method of asking questions, planned science experiences in relation to children's method of making predictions, planned science experience in relation to testing children's ideas and nding ways to enhance children's science learning like creating nature corner, visiting of science centres. The researchers recommended among others that government and other stakeholders should encourage teachers to effectively carryout their jobs; leverage its educational system to drive economic progress and enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
