ASCERTAINING THE SUITABILITY OF UPCYCLING ART PIECES AS A MEDIUM FOR PAINTING EXPRESSION
Abstract
The study emanates from the adoption of abandoned art works as mediums for painting expression. It is observed by the researcher that most dismantled art works especially paintings becomes abandoned pieces from her encounter in that regard. This is because once upstretched, they lose their consistency, value and beauty. The author has encountered this from her previous collections as restoration of such paintings manifests a pleasant result. This is common in most art schools were piled up exam pieces loses value. This instigated the thrust of the study which has prompted the ideas on the subject of this paper. It is for this reason the author sees the need to uplift such abandoned pieces into fascinating piece that can be appreciated. The research will evaluate works that shares affinity with exploration of this nature, it will ascertain the suitability of styles and techniques as well installations emanating from upcycled art piece. As upstretched paintings will also be dissected into varied pieces and re-explored on another support with the aid of a tonal glue. The idea is to project an alternative painting medium to the usage of fresh oil colours especially in the harsh economy where colours are not easily affordable by students and to a lot of artists, this remains a challenge. This can be resolved from the ideology of this study. Yakubu and Gushem (2019)) et al asserted that, trends in contemporary art practice generally are motivated by groups
and individual ideology, based on the artist's understanding of how art should be perceived. These scholars stressed that artist seems to have the urge to create something new and different as they explore their materials in a way that transcends their original purpose, creating true art. They also added that the artist is not just trying to be wacky, but they are attempting to challenge the way people think thus artists are visionaries...which is evident in the intent of this paper as abandoned paintings are revived into an appreciated piece.
