Abstract

The Church is increasingly focusing on promoting peace and social harmony within and outside the Church, as the world is experiencing escalating insecurity and economic challenges. This paper explores the potential of synodality as a tool for promoting peace and social harmony within the Nigerian Church. It emphasises the need to rethink the relationship between the Church and State to create a more cohesive environment. Religious differences are often exploited to incite violence, leading to discord within communities. A synod provides a forum for dialogue and decision-making on critical issues, allowing the Church to engage constructively with the State. By working together, they can promote peace and harmony throughout society. The Synod brings together representatives from various sectors of the Church and society to engage in thoughtful discussion and deliberation on issues that promote unity and understanding. By providing a platform for different perspectives to be shared and debated, the Synod facilitates the achievement of consensus on crucial issues. This essay highlights the Synod's essential role in promoting social harmony and peaceful coexistence within the Nigerian Church and strengthening the relationship between Church and State
