Abstract

This study examines the impact of Christian Education and moral upbringing on students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Awka South local Government Area of Anambra State. Descriptive research design was employed. Three research questions guided the study. The population of teachers consists of (495) and a sample size of 120 teachers was randomly selected. The instrument for data collection is a researcher developed questionnaire titled ‘Impact of Christian Education and moral upbringing on students’ academic performance (ICEMUSAP) in secondary schools in Awka South LGA. The findings revealed that moral depravity and lack of basic values among the students have become terror to both the institution and state at large. Again, Examination malpractices and other corresponding social vices are as a result of insufficient teaching capability from the teachers, in the same vein, some parents and teachers assist immoral class behaviours by subscribing to special Centre syndrome during external examination.This work recommend that Christian Education and moral upbringing should be encouraged and embraced in all the secondary schools for better academic performance in the study area.Principals as a matter of urgency should encourage more activities on moral instructions in schools.
