Physics, a critical component of the Nigerian secondary school curriculum, is for fostering students' scientific understanding and preparing them for future challenges in various fields. Five research questions and three null hypotheses guided the inquiry. The study adopted a pretest-posttest, control group quasi-experimental design. The study employed simple random sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Results indicated that students taught with multimedia tools significantly outperformed their peers in traditional settings, with notable differences based on gender and treatment type. The findings confirm that MBIP leads to enhanced academic achievement in Physics compared to conventional methods, promoting student interaction and engagement. The study recommends that Physics educators adopt multimedia strategies to foster better learning outcomes, ensure proper supervision during multimedia use, and advocate for government support in integrating these instructional tools into teaching practices. Workshops and seminars on multimedia benefits for educators and students are also suggested to enhance the effectiveness of Physics education.
Aghadiuno, Ijeoma Gloria , Sowunmi, Okanlawon Gbenga Copyright (c) 2025 IGBOSCHOLARS INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7027 Wed, 04 Jun 2025 16:41:10 +0000 THE IMPACT OF RELIGIOUS BELIEFS ON MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7028
Religious beliefs play a significant role in shaping individuals' mental health and overall well-being. This study examines the complex relationship between spirituality and psychological well-being, exploring both the positive and negative effects of religious beliefs. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through surveys, interviews, and secondary sources to assess the impact of faith on emotional resilience, coping mechanisms, and mental health challenges. Findings indicate that religious beliefs often provide comfort, social support, and a sense of purpose, contributing to reduced stress and improved emotional well-being. However, strict religious doctrines, fear-based teachings, and religious guilt can lead to anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. The study underscores the importance of an inclusive approach that integrates mental health awareness into religious practices while encouraging faith-based institutions to promote psychological well-being. The findings have practical implications for mental health professionals, religious leaders, and policymakers seeking to address mental health concerns within religious communities. In the context of higher and tertiary education, students with sensory disabilities face unique challenges that can hinder their academic progress and holistic development. This paper explores the pivotal role motivation plays in addressing these barriers and fostering an inclusive educational environment. By examining intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, such as personalized learning approaches, accessible resources, supportive faculty, and peer collaboration, the paper delves into how motivation can serve as a catalyst for unlocking the potential of students with sensory impairments. Sustainable education in higher and tertiary institutions aims not only to impart knowledge but also to cultivate lifelong learners who are resilient, adaptive, and capable of contributing to society in meaningful ways. Anchored in a robust theoretical framework, including Self-Determination Theory, Expectancy-Value Theory, Goal-Setting Theory this study provides a comprehensive examination of how these theories inform motivational strategies in higher education. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates case studies and empirical data to identify effective strategies for enhancing student motivation. The study highlights the need for institutions to adopt sustainable practices that empower these students, ensuring equitable access to education, skill development, and long-term academic success. The integration of assistive technologies, inclusive pedagogies, and motivational strategies not only enhances learning outcomes but also contributes to the overall sustainability of the education system. Through targeted interventions and an understanding of motivational drivers, higher education can become a transformative force for students with sensory disabilities, paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient educational future. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to enhance motivation within higher and tertiary educational settings. These include implementing motivational training programs for educators, developing curricula that align with students' interests and goals, and adopting inclusive educational policies that support diverse learning needs. Prioritizing motivation can help higher and tertiary educational systems achieve greater sustainability, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
Mufaro Marandure , Dudziro Nhengu , Farai Chikwature Copyright (c) 2025 IGBOSCHOLARS INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7030 Wed, 04 Jun 2025 16:46:33 +0000 IMPACT OF INTERCULTURAL LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AMONG SELECTED STUDENTS AT ALVAN IKOKU FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, OWERRI, IMO STATE. https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7031
Intercultural language activities have become essential in modern language education, especially in multicultural contexts like Nigeria. Modern artists have taken on more activist roles as a result of Africa's struggles with terrorism, sociopolitical upheaval, and human rights challenges. They use their artistic platforms to challengeofficial narratives, reveal structural inequalities, and promote change. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative survey data from audiences and security experts in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria with qualitative content analysis of interviews with artists, policymakers, and cultural stakeholders. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to evaluate the quantitative data. Respondent impressions were summed up using descriptive statistics, and associations between demographic characteristics, exposure to activist art, and opinions regarding national security policies were also investigated using inferential methods such as chi-square testing, regression analysis, and ANOVA. The study intended to show how art serves as a dynamic tool for civic involvement and policy discourse in modern African countries, in addition to serving as a means of cultural expression.
Onyebuchi-Igbokwe, Grace Chizoma, Egornu Chizoba Anderson Copyright (c) 2025 IGBOSCHOLARS INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7032 Wed, 04 Jun 2025 16:49:02 +0000 PROMOTING INCLUSIVE AND QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL IN AFRICAN EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS: CRITICAL INSIGHTS FROM ZIMBABWE https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7033
Promoting inclusive and quality education for all is crucial for achieving sustainable development. This study examined the implementation and challenges of inclusive education policies and practices for learners with disabilities within Zimbabwe's education system. Grounded in the Social Model of Disability theory, the research explored various influences on the educational experiences of learners with disabilities. Zimbabwe has made significant strides in integrating learners with disabilities into mainstream education through policies such as the Education Amendment Act (2020) and strategic initiatives. These initiatives include establishing special needs education units in mainstream schools, specialised teacher training programs, and community awareness campaigns, resulting in increased enrolment and improved outcomes for learners with disabilities. However, several challenges persist, including inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of specialised teaching materials and resources, limited teacher training, societal stigmas against disabilities, funding constraints, and a lack of comprehensive data on learners with disabilities. Employing a thorough desk review, the study employed a systematic review of literature to gather secondary data from published academic papers, reports, online articles and related sources. The paper concluded with actionable recommendations for policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders to enhance the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of inclusive education practices.
Farai Chikwature , Mufaro Marandure , Dudziro Nhengu Copyright (c) 2025 IGBOSCHOLARS INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7033 Wed, 04 Jun 2025 16:50:56 +0000 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND MENTAL ILLNESS IN AUSTRALIA: A BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL EXAMINATION https://acjol.org/index.php/igboscholars/article/view/7034
Domestic violence (DV) remains a pervasive criminal offense affecting individuals across cultures and social groups, predominantly within intimate partner relationships and families. It encompasses physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse, driven by a desire to dominate and control. Despite Australia’s relatively low gender inequality, DV remains a significant issue, particularly among Indigenous communities and women. Depression, anxiety, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse are critical risk factors forboth perpetration and victimization. This study explores the intersection of mental health and DV in Australia, examining prevalent mental health conditions among perpetrators, psychosocial effects on victims, and policy responses. A longitudinal approach was adopted in driving home the causes and impacts of living with mental health patients. Findings show that mental health remains an under-addressed factor in DV prevention despite diverse initiatives. Women are usually victims of domestic violence. Those who face DV are physically and verbally abused, maimed, and victimized. Some even lose their lives while survivors sustain different degrees of physical injuries and emotional shocks. The study concludes that comprehensive strategies including public education, psychotherapy, and stronger medical support are essential to mitigate DV by targeting its root causes. Partner’s mental health state should be examined before going into marriage while mentally ill individuals should be given adequate medical attention. Families should be properly informed on the dignity of human rights.
Bruno Onyinye Umunakwe , Declan O. Currently, it has gained greater relevance in the political agenda, owing to its inherent dynamics. The paper consciously interrogated a particular derivation of the concept of security (human security); from the perspective of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees in Nigeria. The alarming flow of IDPs and refugees has proven to be problematic in terms of human security in the country. It investigated what has changed that could demand greater attention in crafting a human security regime. Hence the place of technology, stateactors, Non-governmental Organizations and Inter Governmental Organizations in addressing these concerns became central to this paper. The study therefore, argued that these institutions are inadequate in terms of ensuring and enhancing security and protection of IDPs, and refugees in Nigeria. It is the position of the paper that critical stakeholders of the country, such as leadership of communities, religious leaders, teachers at all levels of education, labour and trade unions, among others, should be captured in the scheme of actions for effective rehabilitation and protection of the IDPs and refugees in all parts of the country.
