A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE AS RESISTANCE AND REVOLUTION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY
Abstract
Nigeria is one of the countries that got her independence in 1960 from the British government. She had been an 'independent' nation for 60 years now with indigenous leadership. She had experienced military and democratic forms of government within the period under review. When the present 'Mantra of Change' came on 29 May 2015, it promised th change and entrenchment of true democracy founded on the basis of the rule of law. It promised independence of certain hitherto, executively-controlled sectors like the judiciary, electoral body, security agencies; just as it will revamp the already dwindling and near death stage of the education, power, petroleum and health sectors. Equally, it promised to handle the Nigerian 'cankerworm'; corruption and insecurity as well as boosting the economy and naira value against foreign currency. It encouraged the Nigerian populace by promising the proper handling of Boko Haram and the safe return of the abducted Chibok girls. These and many more they said, brought smiles on the faces of many Nigerians and even the international world.
