A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SHEHU USMAN DAN FODIO OF SOKOTO AND SHEHU AL-AMIN EL-KANEMI OF BORNO
Abstract
This paper examined the contributions and contrast between Shehu Usman Dan Fodio of Sokoto caliphate and Muhammad Almin El-Kanemi of Borno. Much is written about these two prominent Islamic scholars due to their immense contributions to scholarship, promotion of Islamic religion and good leadership. The researcher adopted the secondary methodology to gather information from articles, published books and the nets for the work. The paper discovered that even though there are many similarities among them in areas of religion, economic and politics, the two scholars differs in some approaches hence, the need for comparative study of their life styles and contributions to society. The researcher suggests religious leaders in Nigeria should learn the lesson of coexistence in a pluralistic society such as ours from these past leaders despite differences in faith.
