In recent years, the transformative power of new media in Nigeria has opened up unprecedented opportunities for creating sustainability initiatives to preserve the environment. This paper delves into the emergence of new media in Nigeria, a game-changer in the communication landscape. It enables easy access and processing of information that could significantly contribute to environmental sustainability efforts. Through a comprehensive qualitative analysis, the paper explores various ethical considerations that must be carefully considered when utilising new media for environmental sustainability efforts. These include the potential for exploiting vulnerable populations, issues of privacy, and censorship. The paper also assesses anthropocentric, biocentric, and nature-driven ethical approaches to the environment, highlighting their potential to guide ethical decision-making. It further examines the potential challenges the technology industry faces in pursuing ethical and sustainable goals and the benefits of promoting environmental sustainability. Finally, given possible implications for policy-makers and stakeholders, the paper recommends steps that can be taken to ensure responsible and ethical use of new media in efforts to achieve environmental sustainability in Nigeria.
