Pope Francis’s Pedagogies of Compassion: Take-Home Implications for the Regeneration of the African Indigenous Social Wisdom – Ubuntu

Abstract

The papacy of Francis is renowned for its pedagogies of compassion and the insistence it must be embodied in our daily lives as legatees and altruists of compassion. The virtue of compassion is not alien to Africans, its entire elements are encapsulated in their indigenous philosophy of humanism; conceptualized as Ubuntu. The African renaissance is providing the energy for the discourse to regenerate Ubuntu to meet the continent’s yearning for emancipation.
