Realising Your Dreams amidst Conflicting Values: What Good Must I Do to Inherit Eternal Life? (Matthew 19:16-22)
Abstract
The impact of Jesus’ ministry is obvious among His contemporaries. No wonder He was sought for in every possible way to give answer to their problem. This search for answers for the problems of life has continued to engage the minds of intellectuals, theologians, philosophers, psychologists and a host of others. It stems from the fact that people want to find intelligible meaning in what they do, feel and think. They want their aspirations, endeavours and dreams to be fulfilled. This cuts across every profession, vocation and work in life. Even priests are not left out in this regard. Human beings want their efforts to have meaning, impact and bring about fulfilment. In this process, challenges, questions and changes are bound to arise. In spite of that, they are not meant to derail, delay and deny us of attaining our goals but mostly to redefine, reshape and realign our purposes; probably too, to authenticate the veracity of the legitimacy of our aspirations. As Christians, it is good to ascertain if our aspiration in life is informed by the impact of Jesus’ ministry. In other words, His ministry should provoke some questions in our mind.
