https://acjol.org/index.php/mujerd/article/view/518

Co-education basically refers to providing education to both girls and boys together, without any discrimination (specifically gender discrimination). This is the actual meaning of co-education explained in simple terms. Observation method is being used. Co-education provides an opportunity for the opposite genders to get to understand each other’s nature. The understanding developed in early age helps them in their practical married lives. We’ve long recognised that women and men work alongside each other more effectively in partnership across all areas of the socio-political landscape, rather than segregated from each other. Co-education is a more natural reflection of society; our schools better reflect the diversity of our culture. Coeducational schools reflect the world that our young men and women will live in so in this case Co-education is good for student and it should be supported continually in all part of the world.
Jude I. The problem of people roaming about unemployed and poverty striken is as a result of illiteracy and being unskilled. The type of education to the people should be one needed for self and immediate community development and the nation as a whole. Adult literacy and post-literacy education programmes target adults and youth-illiterates, semi-literates and the unskilled to train them in occupation-oriented skills. 2020-09-152020-09-1531Challenges in the Usage and Teaching of ICT in Schools
https://acjol.org/index.php/mujerd/article/view/525

The world today has gradually evolved into a global village where information goes viral in order to reach a mass audience within the target audience. In a bid to bridge the widening gap between illiteracy and literacy levels in the education sector the use of Information Communication Technology has emerged with varying challenges with the sole aim of creating information to reach the intended audience at a time. The most prominent of them is the challenge of utilizing its services as ICT has so many options. Two models were employed in this research; that is the behaviorist and the constructivism theories and the findings here posits that humans are in-nature social beings so, by employing the social aspect of ICT that mainly has to do with interaction among school learners and their teachers, a whole lot of gap of education biases would be bridged. As a dimension of virtual communication, the Teaching approach has been suggested here, as a less elaborate means than the various other methods. It is very important to make education accessible at any time by everyone; this will help in reducing the level of illiteracy; Information Communication Technologies therefore, aids in education by speeding up information delivery which in turn brings about improvement in the education environment.
Blossom Okoye Abstract

https://acjol.org/index.php/mujerd/article/view/527

The rate of divorce in our society is becoming alarming and even the rate of marital separation is equally high. Those who have permanently suspended all emotional ties, but are still co-habitating and answering ‘husbands’ and ‘wives’ appear to be in the majority. Those who are regretting their marriages seem to be far more than those who are enjoying theirs. It may be safe to speculate that most couples are trapped and looking for the quickest ways and means of bringing their marital union to an abrupt stop. This situation subsists mainly because majority has failed to understand both the psycho-genic and bio-genic differences that exist in the anatomy of the male and female genders. This paper therefore investigates and brings to the fore this subtle and striking uniqueness as a complementary and not a dividing factor in marital union. It is recommended that understanding these differences will assist couples to complement instead of fighting each other. It is also recommended that these differences should be taught in the schools, churches, conferences, Seminars and workshops so that spouses will begin to see each other as complementary partners and therefore use this understanding to live in harmony and work towards the growth and development of their marriage union, their homes and their immediate communities.
N.F.
Charcoal is said to be the oldest material used by man for drawing. Its use dates back to the prehistoric period. Charcoal drawing easily captures the light and shade effect; on objects and is easily applied and erased on a surface. In spite of these, charcoal drawing has not received the expected in-depth study it deserves by modern artists. Charcoal drawing is the type of drawing produced using the product of a wood "subjected to a slow-burning process that reduces it to carbon". This paper, therefore, aims at giving charcoal drawing the needed attention in art historical studies in Nigeria. The objective of this paper includes, proving that charcoal drawing could be considered as a complete art form. The methodology employed is this study is historical as well as analytical. It is based on the expressive theories, that, art is viewed as the representation of the inner part of the artist. The paper describes the types of charcoal used in drawing, the processes of their production, techniques and history of charcoal drawing as well as the analysis of some charcoal drawings. The study reveals that charcoal drawing is an end in itself, not a means to an end.
Chinezerem Adaeze Eze

In Nigeria, the Education sector especially tertiary institution have witnessed in recent time incessant closure due to industrial action. The influence of this repeated closure of school and academic programs on students learning effectiveness can better be imagined than described. Academic staff union of Universities strike (ASUU Strike) is defined as an organization of teaching staff that uses collective action or stoppage of work to advance its members interest in regards to wages and working condition. The principal aim of this trade union is to promote their members interests. Therefore ASUU as a trade union, in order to fight for their right, good working condition in the Universities and better living standards of the staff of universities have been engaging in incessant strike action so as to press home her demands. ASUU remains the most powerful trade union in Nigeria. It does not dine with the Government which explains why it is difficult to infiltrate its ranks. It goes beyond its primary mandate of protecting the interest of its members to fight for the downtrodden in the Nigeria society (Uzoh, 2017).
Onyekachukwu H. OkoliN.P.
Biology contributes to the realization of the ultimate goals of education both in all round development of students and as a means of wealth creation through botanical gardens. This is a welcome development because, the global economic recession has posed new challenges to the world coupled with the challenges of new energy technology in response to global warming. This has dwindled the economy of many nations particularly petro-mono economy countries like Nigeria whose revenue base depends mostly on proceeds from crude oil exploration. Overdependence on crude oil is a sign of blunt tentacles of Nigeria’s economic prowess to other service sectors such as conservation and tourism for sustainable economic development of which botanical gardens play crucial role as their resources are inexhaustible. The opinion of this paper is that Biology education using botanical gardens can serve as a serious means of wealth creation for national development and solving the problem of unemployment. Wealth creation involves investing for income and long-term capital appreciation. The provisions in the botanical gardens like garden shed, experimental and propagation plot, vegetable plot, ornamental and experimental plot, fruits and economic trees plot, flower plot, lawn, etc. can be used by Biology students for acquisition of entrepreneurial skills which will enable them create jobs for themselves and become self-employed and self-reliant upon graduation. This paper also posits that botanical gardens can be explored to be sources of employment and means of wealth creation both for the institutions and for the nation at large as it serves the basic human needs of education, research, aesthetics, recreation, conservation, tourism, employment, public services and as event centers. These necessitate the need for proper funding and management of botanical gardens.
A.N. ObiajuluN.B. Emmadiole

2020-09-152020-09-1531Social Responsibility Assessment of Cooperative Organizations in Tertiary Educational Institutions in Kaduna State, Nigeria
https://acjol.org/index.php/mujerd/article/view/547

This study is focused on assessing the social responsibility impact of cooperative organizations resident in tertiary institutions in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The population of the study was one thousand four hundred and twelve (1,412) registered members of cooperative organizations resident in tertiary institutions in Kaduna State. Using Taro Yamane’s formula with allowable error e = 0.05, a sample size of three hundred and twelve (312) was used. This sample was distributed equally (at fifty two each) among the six cooperative organizations that were selected one from each of six tertiary institutions; the six tertiary institutions were judgmentally selected two from each senatorial zone in the State. A 5-point Likert-scale measure was used to collect data for analysis. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean Likert-scale) and inferential statistics (Spearman’s rho test). The results of the study reveal as follows: The only significant social responsibility activity carried out by cooperative organizations resident in tertiary institutions in the State is to help their host communities in providing physical infrastructural facilities (x = 3.02). Thus, the cooperative organizations have not really been alive to their social responsibilities to their host communities (P-value = 2.781; r-cal = 1.517). However, the little they have been able to do has had a positive and significant (P-value = 0.752; r-cal = 3.439) impact on the host communities. There are many challenges impeding the provision of social responsibility activities by these cooperative organizations; the major challenges include lack of fund, poor relationship with host communities, and hostile attitude of the host communities. The study therefore recommends that cooperative organizations in tertiary institutions in Kaduna State should strive to imbibe the culture of concern for host community as a cardinal cooperative principle. To realize this, they should intensify drive for membership as a means of increasing their funding capacity; seek beneficial partnerships with local and international donor agencies to enhance their capacity to deliver on social responsibility activities.
Charles Uchenna OnuguUsman A.
