Abstract

Values are the hallmark of human life within the human society amidst its religio-political cum socio-economic interactions. Omenala is the peoples’ way of life as animal culturalis depicted in their humane culture and often, lively borrowed traditions. Ekpemekpe remains peoples’ religious idiosyncrasies pictured as homo religiousus. In our contemporary world there is misleading understanding and applicable melange of these concepts: omenala and ekpemekpe, leading to a kind of perplexed appreciation and nebulous application. The confusion in these concepts has led to some guileful contradictions, contradictory concepts and antonymous words. Using the method of critical analysis the researcher tries to expose the contronymous nature of these two concepts which have chanced many forms of abracadabra amongst uniformed adherents who confuse themselves with ekpemekpe as omenala and vice versa. However, human being fundamentally remains a homo religiousus as well as traditional hominibus or homo culturae
