Biblical View on the Existence of Evil

Abstract

The existence of evil in the world poses a significant challenge to the biblical concept of an all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-good God. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, yet evil and suffering persist. This paradox raises questions about the nature of God, the origin of evil, and the purpose of human suffering. The aim of this research is to explore and understand the biblical views on the existence of evil, and to examine the theological implications of this problem for our understanding of God and the world. This study used qualitative research design, using a combination of biblical exegesis, theological analysis, and historical contextualization to explore biblical views on the existence of evil. The primary data source is the biblical texts. Secondary data include commentaries, interpretations, and theological works from various Christian traditions and historical periods. It was recommended that interdisciplinary approaches, combining biblical studies, theology, philosophy, and social sciences, should be employed to provide a comprehensive understanding of evil. It was also recommended that practical applications of biblical teachings on evil should be developed to inform pastoral care, counseling, and social justice initiatives. Finally, it was recommended that educational programmes should be established to teach biblical views on evil, equipping individuals to address evil in their personal and professional life.
