Abstract

This study examines the impact of Facebook on political movements in Anambra State from 2013 to 2018 through the lens of Social Mobilization Theory. Utilizing a secondary research methodology, the analysis investigates how Facebook has been leveraged to mobilize political activism, shape public discourse, and influence electoral outcomes in the region. The findings reveal that Facebook played a significant role in organizing political rallies, disseminating information, and engaging the electorate, although its impact varied over time and faced challenges such as misinformation and digital divides. To deepen understanding and enhance future research, the study recommends that there is need to enhance digital literacy and training. Political Actors should develop and implement training programs for political activists and campaign managers on the effective use of Facebook. Social Media Regulations should be strengthened and advocate for the creation and enforcement of policies that address misinformation, hate speech, and other harmful activities on social media platforms. Ethical campaign practices should be promoted to ensure transparency. Political campaigns using Facebook should adhere to ethical standards, including transparency about sponsorship and funding of social media ads and content
