Abstract

This paper has focused on the toxicity of artistic oil-based paints and how they affect the lives of the studio artists who use them. The hazards of oil-based pigments have created different health challenges to the lives of the studio artists as they create an unhealthy atmosphere. These pigments are to be handled with care for many of them are cumulative poisons. Any small amount inhaled into the system, gradually builds up sufficient quantity to cause serious illness. If the studio artist must use these pigments, then it is recommended that the studio space or room be well ventilated to allow the ordure of the paints escape into the air. If these simple precautions are well taken, then there will be no reason to exclude otherwise advantageous pigments from daily usage.
