ABORTION: AN IGWEBUIKE PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
Abortion is a moral issue that raises many questions about life and death. It raises questions about what a person is and when one becomes a person. And it raises questions about the moral rights of women. The debate over abortion is one of the most crucial topics in biomedical ethics. It is an issue that has a lengthy history and is still currently debated among experts and the general public. This paper looks at the problem of abortion from the lens of Igwebuike philosophy. Igwebuike philosophy is a branch of African philosophy that places a strong emphasis on concepts such as the sacredness of life, complementarity, virtue and our shared humanity. In the course of this research, the phenomenological and hermeneutical methods of inquiry were employed. The paper submits that abortion, viewed from the lens of Igwebuike philosophy is incompatible with the African worldview of life.
