Abstract

The quest for industrial development across the globe is not new considering its economic and social impact on development. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is playing a significant role in producing skilled personnel to work in small and medium scale enterprises. Likewise entrepreneurship development is equally aiming at empowering the youth with mindset including technical know-how in setting and running business. To Nigeria, both parameters are tools of high importance to the industrial sector and once properly put in place, industrialization will be on sustainable track. Countries like Norway and U.S emphasize TVET and entrepreneurship via collaboration between institutions and industries through which the attainment of their industrial growth and sustainability were achieved. The study discusses the related issues taking cognizance of the importance of technical and vocational education to skill development and entrepreneurship education in preparing in individual in pursuance and development of business. The paper opines that in promoting skill acquisition protocol, Nigeria should adopt German dual system for TVET programmes through apprenticeship and practical-based assessment by industries to maintain tracking on the students’ performance while taking entrepreneurship education through excursion, case studies; experience sharing via lecture series to have effective industrial and professional development. Establishing such link between industries and institutions is imperative for industry-based skill personnel. Student industrial Work Experience (SIWES) should be with relevant industries as they contribute to the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
