Deceit through Religion: An Emergent Cultural Phenomenon in Nigeria
Abstract
This paper “Deceit through Religion: An emergent cultural Phenomenon in Nigeria”, is a response to the precarious situation existing today in Nigeria. A situation, whereby religion is dangerously used as means of deceit, for personal economic gratification and for gaining political power. Religion is gradually but consistently used to manipulate or brainwash many authentic adherents of different religious groups in Nigeria. This paper is not going to engage in any philosophical analysis of cultural phenomenon or cultural phenomenology; but rather we are going to concentrate on the new trend of using religion for deceitful purposes. It is our conviction that applying reason in the matters of religion will go a long way in addressing the deceitful use of religion in Nigeria.
