AN EXPOSITION OF AFROMODAL: EXPLORING ANEW FRAMEWORK OF CONNECTEDNESS

Résumé

In Africa, communal existence and family interaction as well as extended relationships are often defined and championed in a eurocentric model of communalism and communitarianism. These concepts have not expressed the needed differential reflections of African communal engagements and familial involvements. However, these concepts are better and uniquely expressed within the umbrella term of a neologism: Afromodal. The concept and idea of Afromodal, springs from the words: Africa for Afro and modal from modes or modalities, expresses and explores all the differential avenues for connectedness and interconnectedness in a form of relation or connexion within the bounds of African Weltanschauung. Afromodal is the interconnection of African modalities of being expressed and cobwebbed in concepts like igwebuike, onyeaghananwanneya, ubuntu, kwetuism, ibirikambiri, egbebereugobere, ibuanyidanda, ohazurume, njikoka, et cetera. Afromodals are all about the African connecting models, that is, African models of connecctedness and interconnectedness as shown and specified above. It can equally be referred to as an ,afrocommunal modality. Through hermeneutics the researcher tried to piece together what he conceives as afromodals
