AFRICAN PHILOSOPHY AS THE FOUNDATION OF HEALTH AND ENTERTAINMENT EDUCATION IN AFRICA

Abstract

Nature gives human being leverage over other animals. The seat of reason otherwise called intellect is the primary distinctive feature of man over all other temporal beings. With intellect, man is naturally inclined to wonder, and as a result of his efforts to giving answers to the curiosity, he becomes a philosopher by nature. Philosophy itself does not exist outside a culture hence man is a culture bearing fellow, therefore all human effort to education is culture bound and philosophy oriented. The present work consequently takes a critical insight to the fundamental role of African philosophy in health and entertainment education in Africa. The peculiarity of African philosophy is necessary here in health and entertainment education because: “People have developed various ways to assert their continued cultural identity” (Rosman and Rubel, 1988: 316).The work argues that African philosophy is actually the cornerstone of any sustainable health and entertainment education among the people of Africa, since it presupposes the culture, values and norms which constitute the realities of Africans.
