Chapter One
The Big Questions
Abstract
That metaphysics is the core of philosophy is not an exaggeration but a truism. Without metaphysics, philosophy in general loses its taste. Pantaleon Iroegbu discussed metaphysics as the Kpim (core) of philosophy in his book Metaphysics: The Kpim of Philosophy. Aristotle described metaphysics as the 'First Philosophy'. To say that metaphysics is the first philosophy means that it is the basis for all that we know as philosophy. From the beginning of Western Philosophy until the 18th century, it was observed that the most important part of philosophy was metaphysics; other parts were subordinate to it.
