Implications of Hume's Metaphysical Nihilism

  • Ejikemeuwa J. O. NDUBISI

Abstract

I have noted earlier that metaphysics studies being in its totality. Any aspect of study of being by any discipline presupposes metaphysics. Metaphysics has been distinctly noted to be the foundation of other fields of study. Hume's nihilistic approach to metaphysics can be seen as a serious attack on these disciplines. It is in the light of the above understanding that we wish to state some of the implications of Hume's metaphysical nihilism. It is the belief of the researcher that the nihilistic approach of Hume to metaphysics can be interpreted to be a death sentence on science, the obliteration of ethics, annihilation of religion and epistemological uncertainty.
