YOUTH CRISIS AND THE TRENDING 'YAHOO-YAHOO' BUSINESS IN THE 21ST CENTURY AFRICA: IMPLICATIONS ON IGBO CULTURAL VALUES AND HISTORY

There is no gainsaying the fact that the Nigerian youths are presently engrossed in deep crises. There is extreme hardship and increased unemployment rate in the country and the government has little or no plans for the youths. As a result, crimes have exacerbated and the youths are engrossed in immensurable crimes and morally degrading practices across the nation and beyond. Focus is primarily on the Igbo youths in southeast Nigeria. Singling out one trending crime involved in by some of these youths is the 'yahoo-yahoo' business. The objective of the paper is wrapped up in the following questions - what does the future hold for the youths; what is the implication of 'yahoo-yahoo' business on Igbo cultural values and norms; and what is the future implication on Igbo history and Nigeria in general? These factual questions form the objectives of the paper. The paper uses secondary sources to discuss the work. Recommendations are made towards reconciling the urgent danger that is engulfing the Igbo youths.
