AN EXAMINATION OF THE FUNDAMENTAL BELIEFS OF PRIMILLENNIALISM IN THE LIGHT OF BIBLICAL TEACHING

Abstract

Several theories have been acclaimed with respect to the Second Coming of Christ. These are all based on how biblical prophecies are being interpreted. One of these theories is premillennialism. Premillennialism is that system of doctrine which teaches that Jesus Christ will return to this earth before He begins His one thousand year reign on earth. The purpose of this study is to examine the fundamental beliefs of premillennialism in the light of Biblical teaching. The method used for this study is exegetical. In this study it is found out that while the Bible talks of Messianic kingdom, it does not talk of any earthly political millennial reign. And that the Bible teaches that the kingdom of Christ does not belong to this world. Further, it finds out that the doctrine of premillennialism does not fit with biblical teachings. It is recommended that Christians investigate every supposed doctrine to understand the theological issues that are at stake. This can be done by searching “the Scriptures daily to see whether those things are so” (Acts 17.11).
