A Critical Analysis of Globalization, Postmodernism and the Fate of Africa

Globalization has closed up the wide gap that once existed among nations by the constraint of time and space. Occasioned by development in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) efforts, a lot of economic, political and technological collaboration is taking place among nations both far and diverse in culture and tradition. Simultaneously, this is taking place in the face of postmodernism where truth becomes relative without a foundation or reference frame. This current scenario holds enormous challenges for the African continent that may be described as an onlooker in the world theatre without having much to say because of her deficit in science and technology which drives globalization. Consequently, the major actors (owners of technology) have imbibed the philosophy of postmodernism which does not subscribe to any authority or foundation such as truth and morality in its engagements. This paper employed the method of critical and conceptual analysis with a view to understanding the adverse impact of the twin arsenal of globalization and postmodernism oncontemporary Africa and what Africa can do to escape the devastating onslaught.
